The friendship had with Eugene, at the beginning of Nicola’s “rise to recognition” was very important . . . When I first met Nicola, Eugene was “the elder statesman” in his life,. . . his advice and counsel was always ‘listened to’, and he was a dear friend. When I was arranging a ‘major’ showing in New York, of Nicola’s latest paintings at my ‘gallery’, L’Atelier Simbari, in 1987 . . . I asked Eugene, once again, to write an “introduction” for the catalogue - - -
